Fiorentina has established a contractual provision ensuring the automatic extension of Sofyan Amrabat’s contract by one year should Manchester United decide against acquiring the midfielder at the conclusion of his season-long loan.
Amrabat Sofyan was the subject of substantial speculation regarding a prospective transfer to Old Trafford throughout the summer transfer window. However, Erik ten Hag prioritized fortifying other segments of his squad before ultimately making a late move for the Moroccan international.
The final agreement was reached on transfer deadline day, with Amrabat initially being transferred to Man Utd on a loan basis. Despite Fiorentina’s firm determination to include a compulsory purchase clause in any agreement with Man Utd, the two clubs, in lieu, arrived at a consensus on an optional purchase arrangement.
Nonetheless, a recent report from the Italian outlet ‘ILTirreno‘ discloses that Fiorentina has safeguarded its interests by incorporating a concealed provision into the agreement. This provision stipulates an automatic one-year extension of Amrabat Sofyan’s contract in the event that a permanent transfer fails to materialize, thereby preserving his market value.
Fiorentina has already received an £8.5 million loan fee from Manchester United, who would be obligated to pay an additional £21.5 million should they decide to secure Amrabat’s services on a permanent basis.
Ten Hag knows Amrabat Sofyan from his time as manager of FC Utrecht, when the midfielder rose through the ranks. Amrabat went on to make more than 50 appearances for the club before being bought out by Feyenoord.
Following the confirmation of his move to Old Trafford, Amrabat explicitly expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to collaborate with Ten Hag once more. He emphasized that the chance to work with Ten Hag again played a significant role in his decision to finalize a transfer to Old Trafford.

He provided me with the opportunity to feature on the first team at Utrecht. We experienced an exceptional period and a highly successful season.
