Thanks to goals from Jonathan David, Remy Capela, and Gabriel Gudmundsson in the second half, Lille beat Olympique Marseille 3-1 at home on Friday to take a temporary lead in the French Premier League.

With 49 points, the hosts have surpassed AS Monaco, who visit Rennes on Sunday, based on goal differential. Marseille, now sitting at 39 points, is getting farther away from a position in the European football league.

In the 54th minute, following a foul on Samuel Gigot in front of goal, David scored his 16th goal in the league to give the home team the lead.

Six minutes from time, Gabriel Gudmundsson completed the hat-trick with a simple touch after Capela had doubled the advantage with a flawless shot into the top right corner in the 71st minute. Marseille closed the difference with Ismaily’s own goal in the 81st minute; however, they were unable to stop losing in every competition for the fourth time in a row.
